History
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century, which focuses on harmonizing with an opponent’s energy to neutralize attacks without causing harm.

Philosophy

Unlike many martial arts that rely on strikes or brute force, Aikido emphasizes fluid, circular movements to redirect the force of an attack, using joint locks, throws, and pins to control the opponent.
This art embodies the principle of non-resistance, aiming to achieve conflict resolution with minimal injury. Training in Aikido includes practicing with partners in a cooperative manner to develop balance, timing, and sensitivity.
What to expect?
Aikido is a unique Japanese martial art that’s perfect if you want to grow both physically and mentally. It’s a non-competitive practice that focuses on self-defense techniques like throws and joint locks—but don’t worry, it’s all about skill, not strength. Aikido helps you stay calm under pressure while improving your balance, coordination, and flexibility.
We also incorporate training with traditional wooden weapons such as the bokken (wooden sword), tanto (knife) and jo (staff), giving you a complete martial arts experience rooted in Japanese culture.

Our trainings are on Tuesday 19:00 – 20:30 and Thursday 20:30 – 22:00, of which Thursday is open. Our lessons are suitable for beginners as well as people who already have Aikido experience. Newcomers are welcome to join a couple of lessons. We’ll make sure you learn to roll and fall safely and provide you with a gi (jacket). You can take the gi home to wash, just remember to bring it back!
After training, we hang out at the bar for some refreshments and socializing, so come join us!
